Buccal Fat Removal Surgery
Bichectomy
Bichectomy is a surgical procedure performed to remove the Bichat fat pad—commonly referred to as cheek fat.
This procedure has become increasingly popular, especially among individuals seeking a slimmer face and a more contoured look, free from prominent or chubby cheeks.
Buccal fat removal involves the extraction of the Bichat fat pad, which is located within two fat compartments inside the cheeks. The procedure can be done under local anesthesia or general anesthesia, particularly when combined with other facial surgeries.
This surgery helps reduce lower cheek fullness and enhances the definition of the cheekbones, giving the face a more sculpted appearance.
The incisions are made inside the mouth, leaving no visible external scars. Ideal candidates typically have excess fullness in the lower cheeks. Other factors are also considered, such as being in good physical health, having a stable weight, realistic expectations, non-smoking status, and the level of concern with the appearance of round or bulky cheeks.
Post-Operative Instructions for Buccal Fat Removal
Post-Operative
To reduce post-surgical effects after a buccal fat removal, such as swelling and bruising on the cheeks, cold compresses are recommended.
For the first 48 hours, the diet should consist of soft or liquid foods. You may return to work after 6 days of rest, but intense physical exercise should be avoided for 4 weeks following the procedure. During the recovery period, Paracetamol is recommended to manage pain.
Medical leave typically ranges from 6 to 12 days, during which you may work from home, as long as you avoid strenuous activity.
