Liplift

The upper lip lift surgery subtly recreates a more elegant and defined lip.

It is often referred to as a lip lift.

Upper Lip Cosmetic Surgery

The lip lift—an upper lip lifting procedure—is an incredibly elegant and subtle treatment.

Many of our patients come to the clinic seeking more information about this surgery, especially after years of undergoing poorly placed hyaluronic acid fillers. While it’s a fantastic solution for a variety of upper lip concerns, few people know how to ask for it or even that it exists.

There are several techniques available to lift the upper lip. Most surgeons rarely perform lip lifts due to concerns about visible scarring. Older techniques focused on lifting the lip along the vermilion border, often leaving patients with a poorly defined lip edge and a need for heavy makeup to restore definition.

Fortunately, newer techniques have recently emerged that are far more effective at enhancing the appearance of the upper lip and mouth.

In older patients, lip lift procedures can also be used strategically to subtly lift the corners of the mouth. While older methods like the gull-wing and bullhorn lip lift have been used in the past, modern refinements have made this procedure truly impressive in both results and subtlety.

Benefits of a Lip Lift

This procedure can benefit both younger and older patients.

In younger individuals, a lip lift is typically used to avoid an overfilled or “plastic” look. It’s important to understand that not all lips will benefit from fillers.
A lip lift provides the upper lip with a more defined, visible shape, increased volume, and greater tooth show.

As we age, the upper lip tends to lose volume and lengthen.
In older patients, the procedure helps restore youthful balance and sensuality around the mouth. It also improves lost volume and addresses fine lines and “barcode” wrinkles above the upper lip.

Modified Lip Lift

The modified upper lip lift is a more recent procedure developed by Dr. Ben Talei to address the common issues patients experienced with traditional lip lift techniques.

As a revision specialist, he encountered numerous problems typically associated with how most surgeons perform this procedure. This led to several subtle modifications which, when combined, make the procedure virtually scarless and painless. The incisions are hidden beneath the base of the nose, in a natural crease.

Changes in flap elevation and tension-free skin closure allow for faster healing, quick disappearance of incision sites, and prevention of nostril widening, a common issue seen with other lip lift methods.

The modified lip lift is virtually scarless and painless, thanks to incisions being concealed under the nose base.
