Mentoplasty

Mentoplasty is performed to enhance chin projection and is often combined with rhinoplasty.

Mentoplasty

Mentoplasty is a simple procedure performed through an incision inside the mouth (intraoral approach), leaving no visible scars.

A small silicone implant (around 3–4 cm wide) is placed to enhance chin projection, often combined with rhinoplasty for improved facial harmony.

Results are usually excellent, with only minor temporary changes in sensitivity. A key advantage is that the implant can be easily removed under local anesthesia if needed.

The face is made up of aesthetic units that should remain in balance. A well-defined chin contributes significantly to a youthful and harmonious appearance.

There are two main types of mentoplasty: augmentation (with silicone implants or autologous grafts) and reduction (through bone contouring or osteotomies).

Grafts are generally well accepted, and rejection is extremely rare.

Post-Operative

The post-operative period after mentoplasty is generally well tolerated, but some care is required.

During the first 7 to 10 days, rest is recommended. After that, light activities may be resumed with medical approval.

It is normal to experience swelling, bruising, and chin sensitivity.
Applying ice or undergoing lymphatic drainage can help reduce these symptoms.

There are no strict dietary restrictions, but very hot foods should be avoided during the first 5 days.
